DOGO ARGENTINO HISTORY

At the start of this century dogfights in Argentina were held no more ,because of this the dog that was used for these fights"PERRO DE PELEA DE CORDOBES" was less and lesser seen. "ANTONIO NORES MARTINEZ" ,at that time an enthusiastic hunter,got an idea to use and improve the "PERRO PELEA DE CORDOBES" and breed an huntingdog capable of hunting wildboar, pumas and other biggame wild. With the help of his family they started breeding with these and other dogbreeds."GREAT DANES" for heigt and head, "POINTERS" for there hunting abillity(nose), "OLD ENGLISH BULLDOG" for there enormes chest, persistence and character, "BULLTERRIER"(white) for color and no fear of pain, "BOXERS" for reliability, easy handling and stamina, "BORDEAUX DOGS" for courage and great jawstrength, 'IRISH WOLFSHOUNDS" for speed and huntingability, "ALANO" for power, "MASTIN DE LOS PIRINEOS" for color, strength agianst extreme weather and thick bones. "ANTONIO NORES MARTINEZ" bred 2 familys of "DOGOS ARGENTINOS" named:"ARAUCANA" and "GUARANI". At "LOS ALGARROBOS" (the name of his ranch) many puppys were born and even JABALIES(wildpigs of Argentina) were held to test the different "DOGOS ARGENTINOS" for there huntingability. As "ANTONIO NORES MARTINEZ" died in 1956 his brother "AGUSTIN NORES MARTINEZ" went on breeding and propagate the dogo. "AGUSTIN NORES MARTINEZ" took his dogos on his journeys to different countries with him ,he was a jurist and an Argentinian Ambassador.

On 31 july 1973 the"DOGOS ARGENTINOS" was accepted by the FCI ,but 20 march 1964 they were allready accepted by the FCA. The official standard of "DOGOS ARGENTINOS"FCI nr292. 31 july 1973. was written by "AGUSTIN NORES MARTINEZ" based on the first standard written by "ANTONIO NORES MARTINEZ" in 1928 and 1947 published in "DIANA". STANDARD FCI nr. 292. /29 januari 1999 - E is the last standard of the "DOGOS ARGENTINOS" it contains some changes that are critisized a lot , if this new standard is better I will leave in the middle but I do feel that WE show no respect to the first creators of "DOGOS ARGENTINOS" THE FAMILY "MARTINEZ" , but that is a personal feeling.

"DOGOS ARGENTINOS" are great hunters and can be good watchdogs however they are people lovers so they have to be socialized and trained correctly and consistent. So they have to learn the difference between right and rong. An owner of a dogo needs to have knowledge of caninebehaviour , tact and wants to walk them for a longer period ,not just around the corner. It is a healty dogbreed and ages of 10 years and older is common. Huntings are proceeded with silence and in packs of 2 3,4,5,or even 6"DOGOS ARGENTINOS" and if you have or want a dogo as a petdog, you have to keep in mind that he is a huntingdog with a lot of huntinginstincts. Our breed is known all over the world as the biggame huntingdog from ARGENTINA, just as the brothers "MARTINEZ" wanted it!!!
